LinkedIn Is Acquiring Lynda.com
LinkedIn has recently announced that it would be engaging into agreements to acquire the website lynda.com, an online learning company specializing in teaching business, creative and technology skills. Lynda.com’s purpose goes along the same as LinkedIn as it aims to help in career development.
Lynda.com was born in 1995 and the company is based in Carpinteria, California. Its co-founders are Lynda Weinman and Bruce Heavin. The value of this acquisition has been set at $1.5 billion and broken down into half in stock and half in cash. The procedures for this acquisition is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2015.
Apart from offering a large collection of quality courses in various sectors and languages, lynda.com also provides a plethora of services when it comes to serving government, corporate and educational companies through different products such as lyndaPro and lyndaEnterprise. Lynda.com has emerged as a leader in online courses and premium skills acquisition.
Jeff Weiner, CEO of LinkedIn has recently stated that both the missions of LinkedIn and lynda.com are aligned as they seek to help professionals gain a better exposure. This acquisition would help LinkedIn member have access to some of the video content and courses offered by lynda.com.
Lynda Weinman, the co-founder and executive chairperson of lynda.com has stated that she is excited about this acquisition and cannot fathom a better pairing than LinkedIn and lynda.com. She considers LinkedIn as an ideal partner as both companies share the same passion and vision for empowering people through professional development.
